1796 AD: First Sighting of Roulette

This is supposedly the very first time a game of roulette was spotted being played by royalty in Paris. The game would have used a variant if not the original version of Pascal’s wheel, and would have been quite rudimentary to our eyes, but it was roulette just the same. This was where roulette really took off, through royal endorsement. The Kings and Queens loved playing the game, and would wager money on the outcome of the spinning wheel. In fact, this love of the game by the royalty element would lead to the very first innovation being brought to roulette.
